I'm not going to defend Twitter other than to say that most people I know who have tried it end up liking it. There are no friend requests to approve and rarely messages to return. You can ignore it for a month.
One of my favorite current feeds is http://twitter.com/shhdontellsteve. Steve is in his last semester of college. He smokes pot, watches movies, and likes burritos. In fact, he has a crush on the girl at the burrito shop. But Steve doesn't know that there's a Twitter feed about him. His roommate has been secretly chronicling his major daily moves since early July. If you go to the page, it's in reverse chronological order. If you want to start at the beginning, which I recommend, scroll to the bottom of the page and hit more, then repeat until you don't see "more" any longer.
